Energy Audit

If you know how your home wastes energy you can make most of improvements. So, energy audit is the great first step in any renovation. JL Construction is an approved energy consultant and can perfor state of the art energy audit that includes:

  • blower-door test

  • insulation inspection

  • mechanical systems review

BLOWER DOOR TEST

To find leaks we use a large fan that can either pressurize or depressurize the building. The air that comes in goes through the fan, and gauge measures the airflow to find out how leaky the house is. The blower door test can be used to find where the leaks are. Not all leaks are equal. The most important leaks to seal are the ones in the basement (crawlspace) and attic. That is because of the stack effect. Blower door test allows us to to define so called thermal envelope and determine where and how should we air seal the building.

INSULATION INSPECTION

Using various techniques including thermal cameras we inspect the existing wall insulation to determine how deep the wall cavity is, what is the existing type of insulation and how dense it is. Based on that knowledge we can suggest the use of the most efficient type of modern insulation solutions: blown-in cellulose, fiberglass, rigid foam board, spray foam, injection foam, pour-in foam, or dens-pack cellulose.

HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEMS REVIEW

Finally we inspect the existing boilers, furnaces, water heaters, and air-conditioners recommending more efficient and modern solutions. Be advised that using high-tech tools we also check if there is any natural gas leakage. General window upgrade assessment is also usually conducted.
